Do you suffer with fat ankles or fat legs? In surveys given to men asking what they consider to be the sexiest body part in women, one of the most popular answers were legs and ankles. You might possibly reacal that ZZ Top sang about them ‘ She’s Got Legs’ and many men describe themselves as leg people. But for many women legs are often a source of significant insecurity.

Considering that legs are often the part of their bodies that are exposed the most, many women struggle with the appearance of fat legs and those with very fat legs feel uncomfortable exposing them. Usually they will choose to wear pants rather than dresses or skirts tpo cover them up if they believe them to be unsightly.

Considering that a large proportion of women are genetically predisposed to having a higher proportion of fat in their legs and ankles, many women constantly try to reduce the fat that is located within their legs and ankles through exercise and diet often with minimal effect.

Regretably, the stored fat in the ankles and leg area are fats which are difficult to remove and diet and exercise will only do so much. This has resulted in many women turning to the surgeons knife for the answer and many have tried either leg or ankle liposuction

Have you thought about liposuction? It is a recognized procedure, tiny incisions are made around the ankle and the fat is extracted this way.Compression stockings would need to be worn for about 4-6 weeks after the procedure. Prices seem to start from about $4000, so its not cheap and should be seen as the last resort if dieting and other tips have not worked for you.

Of course with a surgical procedure the risks cannot be ignored which is made more sigificant by the fact that the legs and ankles do not hold deep pockets of fat and the fat that accumulates here tends to be rather more superficial. The consequence of this is it tends to be harder to remove than fat from other locations of the body.

Although losing fat form the ankles and legs may not be as effective as in some other areas of the body it should still not be discounted. Here are a number of ways you might like to try before trying the more radical comsetic surgery options?

-Reduce the amount of sugar you have in your diet this also includes things like sugar replacements and foods that contain either sugar or their replacements such as soda’s and candies.

-Wear thick socks or leg-warmers whenever appropriate, the body naturally adds fat to areas that are exposed to cold. If you live in a colder climate you will have a higher chance of having fatter legs and ankles.

-Increase the amount of water you drink. This is also true of almost every part of your body you want to lose weight from. Water helps detox the body which removes free radicals this improves fat loss and reduces water retention.

-Add more protein to your diet whilst maintaining still a balanced diet with a reduced fat intake. Although most people don’t really understand why it has been shown that an increase in the protein in your diet improves your ability to burn fat.

- One of my favorite but simple exercises which you can do even if you lack much mobility is to put your foot out and rotate for ten revolutions in either direction then repeat with the other foot.

-Take a look at another article I have written recently about having sexier legs, you can read it here http://www.dreambodynow.com/want-sexier-legs-follow-these-tips-to-succeed/ you will find some of these tips are also very effective.

Lets not forger- It could be your ankles are swollen due to fluid retention (more common in older and menopausal women and also pregnant women. If this is the case the doctor may choose to prescribe some water tablets to help the body get rid of excess water.

Hope this helps in some way for you, remember though, trying to lose weight in one area is not as easy as it sounds, perhaps an overall weight loss plan might be your best bet.
