Lap Band surgery can be an effective choice for those who are clinically obese. Diet and exercise are always a better alternative to weight loss surgery, but if these do not work or if you have tremendous amounts of weight to lose, you may need some extra help. Before you sign up at a Lap Band Toronto surgery center, make sure you completely understand the benefits and risks of the procedure.

Benefits of LapBand Surgery

The LapBand procedure carries many benefits over gastric bypass weight loss surgery. One of the main benefits is that the Lap Band itself is adjustable. This means the size of the opening can be changed to meet a patient’s changing nutritional needs. This also allows the doctor monitoring a patient’s weight loss to make changes if the patient is losing weight too slowly or too quickly. Pregnancy is another time when an adjustment may be needed, and this is easy with the Lap Band.

Because the Lap Band surgery does not actually change the shape of the digestive tract, it can be reversed. If necessary, the band can be removed. However, it is designed to safely remain inside the patient’s body for life. In most patients, the stomach will return to its normal size and shape after the band has been removed.

This procedure is the least invasive weight loss surgery currently available. It is a laparoscopic procedure, which means it does not require extensive incisions. This leaves less scarring, causes less pain, and patients deal with shorter recovery times and hospital stays than they would with other weight loss surgery options.

Finally, Lap Band surgery does not cause “dumping syndrome.” This is a common occurrence with bypass operations. It refers to an intolerance of carbs and sugars. When these foods are eaten, the patient will become nauseous, vomit, and experience cramping, dizziness, or overall weakness. This occurs because the undigested sugars hit the lower part of the intestines too quickly for the body to handle them.

Potential Risks of Lap Band Surgery

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks associated with the LapBand procedure. These are small, particularly when compared to the risks associated with more invasive weight loss surgeries, but you should be aware of them before having the procedure done.

One risk you face any time you have a surgical procedure done is the risk of blood clots or an allergic reaction to the anesthetic. Be sure that you discuss this with your doctor before having the procedure done. If you have had a reaction to anesthetic in the past, you may not be able to have the procedure.

The band itself may cause problems for some patients. A patient’s body may reject the LapBand and attack it like a foreign object. This is rare, but can cause serious complications. Also, sometimes the band can slip. This can cause it to erode the stomach. It can also cut off the blood supply to the stomach. If the band slips, another surgery must be performed to put it back in place.

If a patient does not follow the dietary guidelines given after the procedure, the pouch created by the band may stretch. Also, the wrong foods can cause vomiting or nausea. A healthy diet is necessary, even after the surgery, in order to guarantee weight loss. Patients who cannot commit to this diet should not undergo the procedure. The surgery is simply a tool to make the diet easier to follow.

While Lap Band surgery does carry some slight risks, it is considered a fairly safe weight loss surgery. Patients who have tried other ways to lose weight and failed should consider the LapBand system as a safe and effective alternative to obesity.

The Advantages of LapBand Surgery

Are you obese? If so, you may be concerned with your health. Obesity can lead to other health complications, including the early onset of death. For that reason, you may be ready to make the change. If so, you may turn to the internet to research your options. In just a few minutes, you will find the LapBand surgery.

The LapBand surgery is a popular procedure that has been performed in the United States since 2001. Although many Americans opt for this procedure and see success, you may be looking for more proof. What is it that makes the LapBand system better than other gastric bypass surgeries?

1 – The LapBand System is Adjustable

Unlike many other forms of bariatric surgery, the LapBand is adjustable. This is very important for tailoring to patient needs. In fact, adjustments are common.

So, what does this mean for you? It means that you and your doctor will work together to decide on the appropriate measurements. This will give you the best chance of weight loss success. With that said, adjustments can be made at anytime. Are you not losing enough weight? Have you lost too much? If so, your band can easily be adjusted to fit your needs.

If that wasn’t enough, the LapBand system can be adjusted without surgery. Adjustment is performed with the use of saline and a thin needle. In most cases, adjustments are included in the overall cost of LapBand surgery.

2 – The LapBand System is Safe

According to the official website for the LapBand procedure, it is the safest obesity surgery currently available in the United States. It has the lowest mortality rate, as well as the lowest complication rate. This, alone, may give you comfort and peace of mind.

As for why the LapBand is the safest surgery option for those suffering from obesity, it involves the procedure. With the LapBand, there is so stomach pouch cutting and stapling. This reduces the risk of complications, including infection and scarring. Instead, an adjustable gastric band, known as the LapBand, is used to reduce stomach size.

While the LapBand procedure is considered safe and effective, further reduce the risk of complications by opting for a Board Certified Surgeon and by following all doctor recommendations.

3 – The LapBand System is Reversible

As previously stated, the LapBand system is adjustable. Not only that, but it is removable. Those suffering from obesity, often find it hard to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. With time, knowledge, and a LapBand procedure, weight loss is not only achievable, but it can turn into positive lifestyle change. In a few as five years or more, you may no longer need the band to help your maintain a healthy weight. In that event, it can be removed and your stomach will return to normal.

The LapBand system is a successful and proven way to lose weight. With that said, not everyone is the perfect match. Following surgery, if serious complications arise, the band may be removed. In this instance, the stomach and body return to normal.

4 – The LapBand System is Convenient

Of course, no surgical procedure is truly convenient, but you will be pleased with the LapBand surgery. Since an adjustable gastric banding, known as the LapBand, is positioned around the stomach pouch, recovery time is short. You would spend more time in the hospital with a traditional gastric bypass surgery.

Since the recovery time is short, minor disruptions will interfere with your lifestyle. You will need to take a few days off from work. If your job duties include heavy lifting, first speak with your LapBand surgeon. Generally speaking, you will find yourself back at work and performing your day-to-day tasks in no time at all.

So, there you have it. Above four great reasons why the LapBand surgery is the best weight loss surgery available in the United States were highlighted. So, what are you waiting for? Speak to your primary care physician or contact a LapBand surgeon to see if you are eligible for this safe and potentially lifesaving procedure.

5 Signs You May Need LapBand Surgery

The LapBand procedure is a weight loss surgery that has increased in popularity since is introduction to the United States in 2001. So, what is it that sets the LapBand apart from other bariatric procedures? It has to do with risk and convenience. With a lower complication and death rate and a shorter recovery period, the LapBand is the preferred choice of treatment for most individuals and healthcare professionals.

If you are overweight, you may be ready to jump on the LapBand bandwagon. As previously stated, the LapBand surgery does have a number of benefits, but it is not right for everyone. So, how do you know? Please continue reading on for five signs that the LapBand surgery is something you should closely examine. In the event the signs apply to you, schedule a consultation appointment with a LapBand surgeon to determine your eligibility.

1 – If Your Doctor Suggests It

Those who suffer from obesity are likely to schedule more appointments with their primary care physician. Those suffering from obesity, deal with other health related complications, including asthma and diabetes. In most cases, primary care physicians recommend healthy eating and exercise. In extreme cases of obesity, the LapBand system may be mentioned.

If your primary care physician suggests the LapBand surgery, take this suggestion to heart. Your doctor has your best interests in mind.

2 – If You Are Severely Obese

On average, those suffering from obesity have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more. This usually translates to 30 pounds overweight. Although obesity has many risks and complications, LapBand surgeons are selective. In most cases, simply just being obese isn’t enough to warrant a LapBand procedure. Instead, most physicians recommend patients have a Body Mass Index (BMI) rating of 40 or more. This translates into severe and morbid obesity.

If you are 100 pounds overweight or more, LapBand surgery may not only help you lose weight, but it may save your life.

3 – If You Are Unable to Lose Weight

In most cases, the LapBand surgery is used as a last resort. It is considered a relatively safe procedure, but there are always risks involved. That is why most professionals opt for natural weight loss methods. Before giving the okay for LapBand, most surgeons want to see proof that their patients have tried to lose weight with diet and exercise. If not, most will try natural approaches before opting for surgery.

If you have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight with diet and exercise multiple times, weight loss surgery may be your only option.

4 – If Your Health is at Risk

Health will play a huge role in one’s ability to undergo LapBand surgery. For many, it is a double sword. LapBand surgery and weight loss can lessen the symptoms of asthma, diabetes, and other obesity related conditions. In fact, symptoms may completely disappear. On that same note, those who are obese due to a medical condition, such as a thyroid problem or pregnancy, are not ideal candidates. In these instances, a reduced stomach size may not cure a weight problem.

If you suffer from obesity related health problems, consider surgery. Not only will you lose weight, but your overall health and wellbeing will improve. You may feel as if you got a new lease on life with the LapBand surgery.

5 – If You Cannot Complete Daily Activities

Despite being obese, some men and women are able to lead normal and happy lives. This is often the case with slight obesity. On the other hand, there are those who cannot do daily activities or needed tasks. Those who find it impossible to play with their children, walk up a flight of stairs, or leave the house, are at a serious and dangerous stage. This is the point where LapBand surgery and other extreme methods of weight loss should be examined.

If your obesity restricts your ability to go about your day, now is the time to consider the LapBand system.

If you are considering weight loss surgery or lapband surgery, make sure you get the facts first. With the rise in obesity, many are seeking effective methods to lose weight through surgical procedures. Many view lapband surgery as the “quick fix” to their weight problems but don’t assess how it will impact their life after surgery. In this article, we will go through what you can expect after lapband surgery related to both diet, exercise, and the healing process.

If you are considering weight loss surgery you must consider that you will need to modify your lifestyle after surgery. If you don’t, your surgery will be for not. The biggest change after lapband surgery are your diet changes. With a lapband the band is placed around the upper third portion of the stomach to create a pouch in your stomach that initially holds 2 ounces of food. Over time this expands to hold 4-6 ounces. My restricting the amount of food your stomach can hold, you can limit your intake thus losing weight in the process. You will feel full sooner but will not necessarily lose the cravings.

What can I expect in the first week after my surgery?

In the first few days following lapband surgery you must stick to a clear liquid diet. Failing to stick to this diet can cause the band to slip and may in some cases require a second procedure.

The other surprise for most is if you drink pop (soda), coffee, or tea you cannot have caffeine for the first 3-4 months after surgery. You don’t want to consume and liquids that might create extra gas during the healing process.

After the first 3-4 days, you will move on to a modified liquid diet for 5-6 weeks that will include protein shakes, soup, and other soft foods like jello.

In the second 5-6 week phase you will be able to move on to solid foods that are shredded to make it easier for your body to digest. Your dietician will typically have you stay away from starchy foods like bread. Your diet will mainly consist of processed meats and vegetables. Just remember, you are on the way to a healthier life.

How Much Exercise Will I Need After Surgery?

After your surgery, you will slowly build up to a consistent exercise routine. At first you will want to start with low impact exercises like walking. Your physician will educate you after your initial visits on whether you are ready for more intense exercise routines.

The key is to start making your new diet and exercise a habit. You will find success if you create new habits that break your old habits and look at the surgery as a new lease on life. It won’t be easy, but worth every minute of sweat you put into it.

Before your surgery, make sure you physician takes you through the appropriate physiological and mental evaluations to make sure you are a good candidate. Finding a specialist that is thorough and experienced will improve your success and your weight loss journey.

You workout regularly, follow a diet plan dedicatedly but still aren’t able to shed even an extra pound! This is not just your story but that of millions who are unable to succeed in their effort to lose weight. Around 20% of these people then take recourse to surgery. But how effective is weight loss surgery. Most of us are skeptical regarding the effectiveness of this surgery. Is it safe or risky? Where can I find lapband surgery texas options?

Celebrities go gaga over their fitness regimen chalked out by expert trainers and renowned nutritionists. But it is not possible for the man on the street to avail such facilities. Over the years, lap band surgery or gastric banding has become quite popular in the US. For the morbidly obese individual, lap band surgery texas is the best possible solution. This surgery uses minimally invasive technique to bind the stomach pouch with a band, which can be tightened or removed. This method helps reduce food intake by minimizing the size of the stomach. As the individual starts losing weight, the position of the band gets loosened and hence needs to be adjusted. Normally, patients take around six to eight adjustments in the first 18 months post lap band surgery. Records suggest that patients lose around 50 to 60 percent of weight two years post surgery.

The question next arises- who are the possible candidates for lap band surgery. This surgery is not meant for all and sundry. Doctors chiefly recommend patients with BMI of 40 and above for undergoing lap band surgery. Exceptions occur when patients with BMI of 30 and above are advised to undergo this surgery on account of high blood sugar levels. Yes! Weight loss surgery helps to remit diabetes to a considerable extent. Research shows that lap band surgery helps patients lose greater amount of weight in a comparatively short span of time. This reduction in body weight helps control diabetes and its ill-effects.

Notwithstanding the positives, there are some downsides to lap band surgery. Slippage of the band might occur when the patient starts losing weight. Besides, the patient should dedicatedly follow the diet regimen advised. No carbonated beverages are recommended. However, weight loss surgery would be a great success only when the patient strictly adheres to the instructions given by the doctor. Regular check ups and adjustment of the band is a part of the entire post surgery process. Once the patient gets used to his new lifestyle, recovery to a new self can be effectively guaranteed.

How Fast Does Weight Loss Occur With Lapband

The LapBand is a silicone band that is placed around the top of the stomach. The LapBand is fully and easily reversible, whereas stomach stapling is not. The Lapband is fastened around the upper stomach to create a new, tiny stomach pouch. The LapBand is not a perfect solution and will not result in weight loss if you start eating an excess of chocolate or high calorie drinks (such as ice cream shakes and soda).

A recent French study concluded that: Laparoscopic Mini-Gastric Bypass is a technically simple, safe, and effective procedure in the treatment of morbid obesity and its associated medical illnesses. A recent study from Taiwan showed Mini-Gastric Bypass resulted in significant and sustained weight loss with successful treatment of Diabetes in 87%.

The lower risk of complications and re-hospitalization after the Mini-Gastric bypass shows that patients and insurers may have access to a safer and less expensive alternative. TV star Gil Gerard, (Buck Rogers), underwent a lifesaving new Mini-Gastric Bypass procedure in order to reclaim his health and restart his career.

The Lapband is positioned laparoscopically around the stomach and requires an overnight hospitalization and an upper GI swallow the next morning. The device can be gradually adjusted to increase stomach constriction by the physician in an office setting so that the patient loses approximately 1-2 pounds per week over two years.

Once you have recovered from the surgery, your body’s own scar tissue heals the stomach tissue together, just as your skin stays healed long after sutures or staples are removed. This minimally invasive approach involves laparoscopic entrance into the abdomen, after which the area behind the stomach in dissected for placement of the band.

The LapBand is an alternative to gastric bypass, or stomach stapling. The LapBand is a viable alternative for those who do not want to experience gastric bypass surgery, and who wish to eat more normally. The LapBand is not a magic pill. But the lapband is a great alternative to the non-reversible gastric bypass surgery.

The LapBand is applied using relatively straight forward key hole surgery which is a lot less invasive than normal surgery and generally allows the patient to return to normal activities within a day or two. The LapBand is made of soft silicone and equipped with an elastic balloon that can be inflated to the desired volume by means of injection postoperatively.

Success of weight loss with the LapBand is 80% dependent on your commitment to follow-up with your surgeon every 6-8 weeks for at least the first year.

lapband surgery is usually performed on extremely obese people, by the general anestthesia. While this procedure is usually done laparoscopically, some cases require open surgery. This surgery engage the positioning of an inflatable silicone ring around the upper part of the stomach, so that a small pouch is formed. This little bag is used as the stomach of the person who has undergone this operation. Since this bag called the stoma is very small, it has the ability to hold small amounts of food. When compared to a normal stomach can hold at least six cups of food, the stoma can only hold up to ½ a cup of food. This leads to reduction of food intake. The band is fastened around the stomach to ensure that the food goes into the stoma to the remaining part of the stomach in a slow manner so that the person feels full for a longer time. This leads to a gradual weight loss of the person who has followed a strict diet in order to achieve best results. Now you have a basic idea of lap band procedure. Next, we take a look at the lap band surgery demands that a person who is entitled to make, to deal with these criteria.

Conditions forlapband surgery
Lap band is not performed on every overweight person. There are several requirements that must be met with the person so that he may have recourse to this method of weight loss. Below are some of the most important round ligament surgery requirements. Now you know that only overweight people are opting for this surgery. However, does the BMI (Body Mass Index) has an important role in a person entitled to such surgery. A person with a BMI of 40 and above can opt for this surgery. If the BMI is between 35 and 40, but the person has diseases (such as sleep apnea, diabetes, high, etc.) that can be improved by the reduction in body weight, then, this operation can be performed. Also, the body weight of the person can be considered as a criterion instead of the BMI. That his body weight is 45 kilograms or more above the ideal weight of the person. The age of the person must be between 18 to 55. In some cases, others may also be considered for this operation is considered. Lapband surgery requirements include evidence of past weight loss programs (in particular are medically supervised). In other words, the other person weight loss methods tried before the decision for this operation. This requirement is important for the lap band surgery insurance. The person has a history of obesity. He / she must be obese for the last 5 years or more, so that admission to thelapband surgery.
Lapband surgery include requirements and the affordability and the knowledge of the band lap surgery complications and risks. The person has to follow the diet and other lifestyle changes are ready.
How does a Lap-Band Work Once the lap band around the upper part of the stomach, a small bag, otherwise known as stoma, is secured, formed at the upper part of the stomach. The stoma is small, as compared to the remaining part of the stomach. In most cases, the stoma to keep half a cup of food, while the capacity of a normal stomach six cups. As the stoma can be kept very small quantities of food, the person feels full, even if they are eating food in small quantities. As the stoma secured with the band during the lap band procedure, leftovers move to the larger part of the stomach, very slowly. A person does not feel for a long time, and this leads to less hungry food intake, leading to weight loss. The band is adjustable, as they are inflated or deflated by inserting or removing saline. Adjusting the height of the saline solution in the ring is done generally provided through an access port under the skin. The band is adjusted as per the requirement and comfort of an individual. If the band is too loose, the person feels too hungry because the food passes too quickly from the stoma to the larger part of the stomach. If it is too narrow, the food is not to pass through the digestive system in an appropriate manner. So this band is adjusted several times by the surgeon, so as to obtain an ideal positioning.

What is The Goal Of Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Gastric bypass (also known as a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) is a type of weight loss surgery that works by making your stomach smaller and your digestive system shorter.

Your care will be adapted to meet your individual needs and may differ from what is described here. So it’s important that you follow your surgeon’s advice.

* About gastric bypass surgery
* What are the alternatives?
* Preparing for your gastric bypass operation
* About the operation
* What to expect afterwards
* Recovering from gastric bypass surgery
* What are the risks?

About gastric bypass surgery

A gastric bypass operation involves creating a small stomach pouch and bypassing part of your small intestine to make your digestive system shorter, although nothing is actually removed. This means that you can only eat small meals and your body absorbs less food.

Surgery is usually recommended only if non-surgical treatments, such as diet, exercise and medicines haven’t worked.

Roux-en-Y-Gastric Bypass (Traditional and Laparoscopic)

The Roux-en-Y bypass is more common and considered less complicated than the biliopancreatic diversion bypass, since Roux-en-Y does not remove portions of the stomach.

The traditional Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass is performed through open surgery with one long incision.

The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass can also be performed laparoscopically. The laparoscopic Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass uses multiple smaller incisions (instead of one long incision) – a laparoscopic tool is inserted, which offers a visual guide to the inside of the abdomen during the procedure..

Biliopancreatic Diversion Bypass

The biliopancreatic diversion bypass is performed through open surgery with one long incision, leaving a permanent scar. It is less common and more complicated than the Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass.

In the biliopancreatic diversion, portions of the stomach are removed and the bypass is attached to the distal illium. This procedure is not widely used, because there is more risk of nutritional deficiencies.

What are the alternatives?

An alternative surgical option is to have gastric band surgery. Your surgeon will explain your options to you.

Preparing for your gastric bypass operation

Your surgeon will explain how to prepare for your operation. For example if you smoke you will be asked to stop, as smoking increases your risk of getting a wound infection and slows your recovery.

The operation usually requires a two to four day stay in hospital and is done under general anaesthesia. This means you will be asleep during the operation.

You will be asked to follow fasting instructions. Typically you must not eat or drink for about six hours before a general anaesthetic. However, some anaesthetists allow occasional sips of water until two hours beforehand…

About the operation

Your surgeon will use surgical staples to create a pouch from the upper part of your stomach, separating it from the rest. A section of your small intestine is then bypassed and re-connected to the pouch. Food takes a shorter route through your digestive system, and so less food is absorbed by your body. Gastric bypass can be done using keyhole (laparoscopic) or open surgery. The operation takes between one and three hours.

Keyhole surgery

Your surgeon will make four to five small cuts on your upper abdomen. He or she will then use small instruments that are guided by a special telescope with a camera to perform the operation. Afterwards, the skin cuts are closed with several stitches.

Open surgery

A single cut (about 30cm long) is made on your upper abdomen to perform the operation. Afterwards, the skin cut is closed using stitches and staples.

What to expect afterwards ?

You will need to rest until the effects of the anaesthetic have passed. You may need pain relief to help with any discomfort as the anaesthetic wears off.

You may have a catheter to drain urine from your bladder into a bag. You may also have fine tubes running out from the wound. These drain fluid into another bag and are usually removed after a day or two.

You may have a tube passing through your nose to your stomach for the first day. This drains air and fluid from your stomach to stop you feeling sick and bloated…

Recovering from gastric bypass surgery

If you need pain relief, you can take over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. Follow the instructions in the patient information leaflet that comes with the medicine and ask your pharmacist for advice.

General anaesthesia can temporarily affect your co-ordination and reasoning skills, so you should not drive, drink alcohol, operate machinery or sign legal documents for 48 hours afterward..

What are the risks?

Gastric bypass surgery is commonly performed and generally safe. However, in order to make an informed decision and give your consent, you need to be aware of the possible side-effects and the risk of complications of this procedure.

Side-effects

These are the unwanted, but mostly temporary effects of a successful treatment, for example feeling sick as a result of the general anaesthetic..

Complications

This is when problems occur during or after the operation. Most people are not affected. The possible complications of any operation include an unexpected reaction to the anaesthetic, excessive bleeding or developing a blood clot, usually in a vein in the leg (DVT).

Some of the complications you may get after a gastric bypass operation are listed here.

* Infection : – antibiotics are usually given during surgery to prevent infection.

* Damage to other organs in your abdomen : – you may need further surgery to repair any damage.

* Bowel leak : – the point where your intestine is re-joined to your stomach pouch could leak in the first few days and you may need further surgery to repair this.

* Gallstones : – there is a risk you may develop gallstones if you lose weight quickly. These can be painful and you may need surgery to remove them. Your surgeon may advise removing your gallbladder when you have your operation.

* Failure to lose weight : – it’s possible you may fail to lose sufficient weight or regain weight after bypass surgery.

Where to Get Affordable Lapband Surgery

If you are one of those people who have been fighting the battle of the bulge and have time and again found yourself coming up just a wee bit short, you might have considered various options to help you win the battle. Whether it is new pills, weight loss supplements or the latest fad diets that have been making the rounds on magazines and talk shows on TV, you have probably ended up seeing more than you really want to see. You might have considered surgical weight loss but most weightloss surgery procedures are not only expensive and invasive but also disrupt your life by requiring you to stay at the medical facility for a while. But if you have heard of lapband surgery or the adjustable gastric band you should know that if you have it performed Friday afternoon you can be back in office by Monday morning.

Before you decide on the lapband surgery or any other kind of weight surgery with or without lap bands, you have to see all the options available to you whether it is your diet, exercise or any other weight loss plans. Then you might have to make some changes to your exercise and eating habits and really make an effort at maintaining these changes because it will be based on this whether you will be able to win even if you undergo the insertion of an adjustable gastric band.

Once you’ve done the ground work and found that lapband surgery is indeed the right option for you and you fell comfortable with the idea then you should go ahead. However, you will first have to undergo some tests and talk to the specialists to make sure that you are a good candidate for the adjustable gastric band.

Once you have been pre-screened successfully, you can be ready for the lapband surgery. Make sure that you understand all the costs beforehand. Although the procedure is pretty quick, you will need an overnight stay at the hospital mostly to make sure that you shake off the anesthetic. You will need to pay for the anesthesiologist; then there will be the cost of the actual procedure and the device or adjustable gastric band itself.

The adjustable gastric band is inserted through a tiny incision near the top of the stomach and wrapped around it so that it can be inflated or deflated and adjusted as per the requirement. If it is tightened, you will be able to eat less food and yet feel full. This is adjusted in such a way that you consume only how much food you need and no more thus helping you lose surplus weight. This can be adjusted and can even be removed; hence lapband surgery is said to be reversible. It can also be removed when a woman is expecting and needs to eat properly to make sure that the foetus is growing healthy.

Childhood obesity has become a dramatic problem in not only the United States but also in other developed countries of the world. The childhood problem stems from a condition whereas excess body fat begins to negatively affect the child’s wellbeing and health. Since the presence of childhood obesity has such a vast effect upon a child’s health the problem is considered by many physicians to be of paramount importance and has been designated as a serious childhood health concern.

The usual method used to calculate the obesity within school children is by use of the body mass index or as it is commonly abbreviated to as BMI. This acceptable measurement for determining the amount of obesity in children two years of age or older seems to work effectively. One must of course keep in mind that the BMI will vary greatly according to the child’s age and gender.

The major concern of most medical personnel on the childhood obesity issue is the effect that may have upon the child’s health. Oftentimes it can lead to very life threatening conditions which can include diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, sleep problems as well as other dangerous disorders. Additional disorders include various liver diseases, onset of early puberty, appetite and eating disorders which occur in the form of bulimia or anorexia, skin infections, or various respiratory problems such as asthma. It goes without saying that several studies conducted have concluded that overweight children often grow up to become overweight adults.

There are often emotional problems which are closely associated with Childhood Obesity due to the constant teasing and harassments which the child experiences from their peers. In some cases this harassment and teasing even originates from members of their own immediate family. All of this constant teasing may eventually lead to feelings of low self esteem as well as periods of sever depression.

The conditions that lead to these Childhood Obesity problems are usually varied and can be caused by a variety of physical and emotional triggers. Eating habits tend to be high on the list of causes although it is often impossible to pinpoint the exact cause.

One study conducted for a period of three years used a random selection of 1700 3rd grade children for which two balanced meals were offered and combined in a supervised exercising program. This study failed to provide a significant reduction in related body fat when compared to the studies controlled group of children. Even though the children in the program were under the impression that they were eating less they were in fact consuming the same amount of calories as previously. In the same test the energy expended remained the same between the two groups even though their dietary intake of fat was decreased from 34% to 27 %.< /p>

Fast Food And It’S Link To Obesity

Oftentimes fitness enthusiasts and health gurus will lecture the public upon counting calories and watching how many of these calories are consumed on a daily basis. With the advanced technology that we have today calorie counting is made much easier then in previous years. There are many plans which encourage people to exercise on a regular schedule in order to prevent Obesity however even with all these preparations in the making people are generally becoming more and more overweight then ever before.
One of the primary reasons why obesity is so inevitable in America today is centered upon the popularity of fast food. Fast food chains in our country are proliferating like mushrooms in a forest. To many people fast food has become a part of the lifestyle for which they are accustomed to. This change in lifestyle is partly due to the busy schedules many workers keep as well as the fast-paced lifestyle that they are currently experiencing. Fast food has become the answer to every physical hunger felt by this generation since time does not usually permit one to sit and properly eat a meal. Being able to offer many tasty, enticing, fast and low-priced food items has enabled fast food chains to gain a foothold on the food industry. Considering the fast pace of our lifestyle this manner of eating seems to be the right answer to everyone’s fast-paced life. None of this food is as healthy for an individual as sitting at a table and having a good ole fashion meal so it is no surprise that the population is quickly becoming Overweight.
Does fast food provide good nutrition? The answer is usually no. The food items found in our fast food chains are enticing and tasty plus looks appetizing but are not really nutritional. Actually, these meals contain mostly calories and various fats. These foods are made to merely satisfy the immediate hunger which a person feels at that time. Because it is “Fast Food” it is of course served quickly. This means the food is a ready to serve item and is easy to prepare. These food items are usually altered to conform to a long shelf life and the nutritional value that each of the foods contain is unfortunately decreased or in some cases eliminated due to the preservation process. Adding to this fact all the additives which are placed into the food as preservatives we end up with a very unhealthy balance of food.
Aside from the dreaded calories which you obtain from the food purchased in the fast food chains the more dangerous factors which you should always take into consideration are the unnecessary additives used to extend the foods shelf life. These preservatives are actually more dangerous than the obvious calories. Preservatives are usually of a chemical nature and may cause a number of diseases including cancer.

Obesity: A Link To Diabetes

Health experts clearly recognize that many of the diseases today are caused by obesity and these diseases are usually of a life threatening nature. One of these dreaded diseases which often plaques the obese individual is diabetes. It is very alarming that the young American population today is rapidly becoming heavier and more overweight each day. The results of a situation such as this are shocking and can result in many young people dying ahead of their parents. Additional studies indicate that children who are born in the year 2000 and up are more likely then others to develop diabetes.

Diabetes is of two basic types:

Type 1 diabetes sets in because of a damaged insulin-producing pancreas. The usual reason for this pancreas malfunction is generally due to virus and some sort of shock.

Type 2 diabetic is caused by either the lack of proper insulin or the improper usage of insulin made by the human body. This type represents the most common of the diabetic problems.

Even though it has never really been established as to what initially causes diabetes many current experts and scientists has established a preliminary link between the processes of overeating which leads to obesity to establishment of the type 2 diabetes. According to recent studies more than 80% of those who are diagnosed with diabetes are grossly obese.

How do you know that you have diabetes?

Signs and symptoms of diabetes are as follows:

1. excessively thirsty

2. fatigue

3. frequent urination

A patient usually does not die of diabetes itself but rather of the complications which originate from it such as:

1. heart problems

2. kidney failures

It only stands to reason that if diabetes is medically related to obesity then the disease is completely preventable. The simple fact remains that the cure would be to simply avoid being obese and therefore it will prevent you from becoming a diabetic. As in anything else it is very important that you eat healthy meals and remain in a fit physical condition. Here are some simple tips to try in your attempt to avoid becoming overweight:

1.Change your eating habits – eating healthy and eating right is the major key here. Avoid fast food and drink something more healthful then soda as much as possible as these foods contain un-needed calories and other unhealthy compounds which are not good for your body. Be conscious of the foods which you take into your body. If you cannot avoid going to fast food chains or drinking soft drinks you can eliminate the habit gradually until you have reach your intended goal.

2.Exercise – sweating it out to remove excess fats and cellulites as well as giving your respiratory and cardiac muscles a boost is still a great way to not only lose weight but to tone up your muscles as well. There are many ways in which you can exercise even during the times that you may be at your office or in the comfort of your own home. You merely need to be creative and adaptive.

3. Keep updated on current developments in the field and learn all you can towards prevention and curing diabetes. Knowing more about the disease and the factors which may affect you is a big step towards avoiding it completely.

Obesity Help: Simple Ways To Address Obesity

Simply put obesity often results in major health problems and diseases such as diabetes and heart problems. Searching for help involving obesity is very essential since it is firmly linked to many life-threatening medical conditions.

The Association of American obesity published its findings in an article which stated that obesity causes a minimum of three hundred thousand deaths every year in the U.S. and one hundred billion dollars in health related expenses. Most developing countries not just America have discovered that they have a growing obesity rate due to the unhealthy lifestyle, poor eating patterns and poor food choices.

The following are some of the possible ways that may help you address an obese condition or weight issue :

1. Education. Know what you eat and what you should be eating for your optimum health. Realize the value of the food that you are putting into your mouth. Find out what its nutritional value is and if it is actually good for your health. Obviously, fast food and junk food are not considered to be of value in this case.

2. Exercise. Simply put “Sweat it out to take off those extra cellulites and fats in your body”. A good form of exercise is walking. Another that you can employ is an activity such as gardening or cleaning the house or even yoga for a more sophisticated form of exercise. Aside from this there are exercise machines and gadgets which you can bring to the office or have in the home that will aid you greatly in your quest for weight reduction all thanks to modern technology. The common excuse by most people for failing to exercise properly is that they do not have the necessary time to visit the gym. With home equipment readily available this excuse is no longer acceptable.

3. You need to start eating healthy and eating the right selection of food. Eating a balanced diet everyday is very essential.

4. Look for natural food supplements which would help your body to burn off the excess fat. This should be coupled with a regular exercise routine.

Today, there are so many choices laid out for anyone who desires to fight obesity. It is just a matter of choosing the appropriate ones needed to remedy your weight problem. These choices represent ideal ways and means in which to help you fight obesity. In a real sense the best that you can do is exercise a firm will power and complete what you have decided was necessary in order to address your obesity issue. It really does not matter how good of a diet plan you have laid out before you, nor how costly of an exercise equipment which you may purchase or even how expert your fitness instructor may be the ultimate factor here is that it is you who will have to follow that diet plan, do the required exercises and follow what the instructor sets forth for you. Self discipline is the answer if you really want to be healthy.

Obesity In America

Unlike in most developing countries obesity does not present a problem because food is reality scarce and the choices are few. However in America it is just the opposite situation where there is an abundance of food and the usual sources are unfortunately fast food selections. With fast food Americans have a tendency to overeat which represents the root cause of obesity. Obesity is not just a weight issue but more as to what you actually eat. Unfortunately many people are not fully aware of what their food contains and if the food they eat is really nutritional. Fast food with its growing amount of fats and sugars are all a serious causes of both adult and teenage obesity.

America represents one of the progressive nations within the world today due to the high progress involving its technology. As a result of this technology most Americans are finding that they are living in a fast-paced lifestyle. Along with this lifestyle comes the usual eat quickly and get back to work routine which welcomes the fast food establishments with welcome arms. This is one of the main causes of obesity in America - the proliferating fast food chains which are patronized by almost all people in the country and in particular by the young teenagers.

Another item which has contributed to the problem is since we have all these advances in technology most calorie burning work usually accomplished in our daily routines has completely disappeared. Without these daily physical workouts and recreational activities they tend to become overweight.

The third factor which supports obesity is the food portion sizing. Upsized meals which are available in most fast food restaurants are high in calorie intake and usually exceeding the ideal daily dietary level for most adults. With the vast selection of meals available from the menu choices it is an easy matter to overeat. It is vital to value food quality and not just the size.

Obesity leads to life-threatening problems and one needs to act immediately if they are obese. The most common solutions for combating obesity are to follow a specific dietary plan. There are several kinds of diet plans available which are designed by health enthusiasts however they also fail due to several often overlooked issues such as:

You lose the excess weight but quickly gain it back

You always feel hungry on a diet

You can’t stick to a diet for very long

You convince yourself that you will be overweight forever

If you truly want to change you and only you have to start this change yourself. You have to make a firm commitment to complete what you plan to accomplish in order to reduce your obese condition. You know the reasons behind it and you know the consequences. It is up to you to do the right thing and begin the change in yourself.

Causes Of Obesity

As we all know obesity aside from leading a person to sever health problems tends to affect the self esteem of young teenagers. In most cases, peers bully and tease these children who may be overweight when compared to the other children. This alone has a tendency to affect the way the child views themselves as well as having a profound influence upon their social life. Teenage obesity has continued to increase at a steady rate within the past 20 years and it is estimated that 12.5 million teens or 70% of the teenage population are currently overweight.
There are several factors which contribute to teenagers becoming overweight in America these days.

1. Poor eating habits. Not eating the right food at the right amount at the right time are the foremost reasons that contribute to obesity in teens. Fast food and soft drinks are the main culprits. Teens have become consistent customers of these fast food chains which have sprung up in all neighborhoods of America. The tendency to overeat the fast food selections plus the failure to eat at the proper time all contributing factors to these teen’s overweight problems. In addition, teenagers tend to eat a considerable quantity but are failing to get the proper nutrition from the foods that they do consume. Fast foods have shown to be an ideal means of eating particularly since most people are living a fast paced lifestyle.

2. Laziness and lack of exercise. Because of the technology that now offers automation in almost everything we do most of the tasks that require exerting some sort of effort has been effectively replaced with gadgets and other high tech stuff. Watching TV and computers are also contributed greatly to this obesity issue in teens. Teens spend more time in front of the TV or the computer while eating mostly junk food and consuming a vast amount of soft drinks instead of exercising and sweating.

3. Psychological factors. Stress, anxiety and especially depression may lead a teen to eat merely to pacify themselves. These are prominent factors which eventually will lead to obesity in the teenagers.

4. Medical conditions. Some disease conditions may cause a teen to be overweight such as thyroid problems.

5.Heredity. This is a situation where the overweight problem simply runs in the family.

These factors that contribute to teenage obesity must be addressed in order to curtail the increasing number of teens who are currently overweight. There are many cases where the children die ahead of their parents merely because of obesity thus it is important to do something positive and address these issues immediately. The family especially the parents have a big role to play when resolving their teenage obesity.

Martin McCartney is a well known dietitian, and health advisor, who frequently write about obesity amongst people, its preventive measures, etc. He also suggests regulatory diet for those suffering obesity.
