Lap Band surgery can be an effective choice for those who are clinically obese. Diet and exercise are always a better alternative to weight loss surgery, but if these do not work or if you have tremendous amounts of weight to lose, you may need some extra help. Before you sign up at a Lap Band Toronto surgery center, make sure you completely understand the benefits and risks of the procedure.

Benefits of LapBand Surgery

The LapBand procedure carries many benefits over gastric bypass weight loss surgery. One of the main benefits is that the Lap Band itself is adjustable. This means the size of the opening can be changed to meet a patient’s changing nutritional needs. This also allows the doctor monitoring a patient’s weight loss to make changes if the patient is losing weight too slowly or too quickly. Pregnancy is another time when an adjustment may be needed, and this is easy with the Lap Band.

Because the Lap Band surgery does not actually change the shape of the digestive tract, it can be reversed. If necessary, the band can be removed. However, it is designed to safely remain inside the patient’s body for life. In most patients, the stomach will return to its normal size and shape after the band has been removed.

This procedure is the least invasive weight loss surgery currently available. It is a laparoscopic procedure, which means it does not require extensive incisions. This leaves less scarring, causes less pain, and patients deal with shorter recovery times and hospital stays than they would with other weight loss surgery options.

Finally, Lap Band surgery does not cause “dumping syndrome.” This is a common occurrence with bypass operations. It refers to an intolerance of carbs and sugars. When these foods are eaten, the patient will become nauseous, vomit, and experience cramping, dizziness, or overall weakness. This occurs because the undigested sugars hit the lower part of the intestines too quickly for the body to handle them.

Potential Risks of Lap Band Surgery

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks associated with the LapBand procedure. These are small, particularly when compared to the risks associated with more invasive weight loss surgeries, but you should be aware of them before having the procedure done.

One risk you face any time you have a surgical procedure done is the risk of blood clots or an allergic reaction to the anesthetic. Be sure that you discuss this with your doctor before having the procedure done. If you have had a reaction to anesthetic in the past, you may not be able to have the procedure.

The band itself may cause problems for some patients. A patient’s body may reject the LapBand and attack it like a foreign object. This is rare, but can cause serious complications. Also, sometimes the band can slip. This can cause it to erode the stomach. It can also cut off the blood supply to the stomach. If the band slips, another surgery must be performed to put it back in place.

If a patient does not follow the dietary guidelines given after the procedure, the pouch created by the band may stretch. Also, the wrong foods can cause vomiting or nausea. A healthy diet is necessary, even after the surgery, in order to guarantee weight loss. Patients who cannot commit to this diet should not undergo the procedure. The surgery is simply a tool to make the diet easier to follow.

While Lap Band surgery does carry some slight risks, it is considered a fairly safe weight loss surgery. Patients who have tried other ways to lose weight and failed should consider the LapBand system as a safe and effective alternative to obesity.

The Advantages of LapBand Surgery

Are you obese? If so, you may be concerned with your health. Obesity can lead to other health complications, including the early onset of death. For that reason, you may be ready to make the change. If so, you may turn to the internet to research your options. In just a few minutes, you will find the LapBand surgery.

The LapBand surgery is a popular procedure that has been performed in the United States since 2001. Although many Americans opt for this procedure and see success, you may be looking for more proof. What is it that makes the LapBand system better than other gastric bypass surgeries?

1 – The LapBand System is Adjustable

Unlike many other forms of bariatric surgery, the LapBand is adjustable. This is very important for tailoring to patient needs. In fact, adjustments are common.

So, what does this mean for you? It means that you and your doctor will work together to decide on the appropriate measurements. This will give you the best chance of weight loss success. With that said, adjustments can be made at anytime. Are you not losing enough weight? Have you lost too much? If so, your band can easily be adjusted to fit your needs.

If that wasn’t enough, the LapBand system can be adjusted without surgery. Adjustment is performed with the use of saline and a thin needle. In most cases, adjustments are included in the overall cost of LapBand surgery.

2 – The LapBand System is Safe

According to the official website for the LapBand procedure, it is the safest obesity surgery currently available in the United States. It has the lowest mortality rate, as well as the lowest complication rate. This, alone, may give you comfort and peace of mind.

As for why the LapBand is the safest surgery option for those suffering from obesity, it involves the procedure. With the LapBand, there is so stomach pouch cutting and stapling. This reduces the risk of complications, including infection and scarring. Instead, an adjustable gastric band, known as the LapBand, is used to reduce stomach size.

While the LapBand procedure is considered safe and effective, further reduce the risk of complications by opting for a Board Certified Surgeon and by following all doctor recommendations.

3 – The LapBand System is Reversible

As previously stated, the LapBand system is adjustable. Not only that, but it is removable. Those suffering from obesity, often find it hard to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. With time, knowledge, and a LapBand procedure, weight loss is not only achievable, but it can turn into positive lifestyle change. In a few as five years or more, you may no longer need the band to help your maintain a healthy weight. In that event, it can be removed and your stomach will return to normal.

The LapBand system is a successful and proven way to lose weight. With that said, not everyone is the perfect match. Following surgery, if serious complications arise, the band may be removed. In this instance, the stomach and body return to normal.

4 – The LapBand System is Convenient

Of course, no surgical procedure is truly convenient, but you will be pleased with the LapBand surgery. Since an adjustable gastric banding, known as the LapBand, is positioned around the stomach pouch, recovery time is short. You would spend more time in the hospital with a traditional gastric bypass surgery.

Since the recovery time is short, minor disruptions will interfere with your lifestyle. You will need to take a few days off from work. If your job duties include heavy lifting, first speak with your LapBand surgeon. Generally speaking, you will find yourself back at work and performing your day-to-day tasks in no time at all.

So, there you have it. Above four great reasons why the LapBand surgery is the best weight loss surgery available in the United States were highlighted. So, what are you waiting for? Speak to your primary care physician or contact a LapBand surgeon to see if you are eligible for this safe and potentially lifesaving procedure.

5 Signs You May Need LapBand Surgery

The LapBand procedure is a weight loss surgery that has increased in popularity since is introduction to the United States in 2001. So, what is it that sets the LapBand apart from other bariatric procedures? It has to do with risk and convenience. With a lower complication and death rate and a shorter recovery period, the LapBand is the preferred choice of treatment for most individuals and healthcare professionals.

If you are overweight, you may be ready to jump on the LapBand bandwagon. As previously stated, the LapBand surgery does have a number of benefits, but it is not right for everyone. So, how do you know? Please continue reading on for five signs that the LapBand surgery is something you should closely examine. In the event the signs apply to you, schedule a consultation appointment with a LapBand surgeon to determine your eligibility.

1 – If Your Doctor Suggests It

Those who suffer from obesity are likely to schedule more appointments with their primary care physician. Those suffering from obesity, deal with other health related complications, including asthma and diabetes. In most cases, primary care physicians recommend healthy eating and exercise. In extreme cases of obesity, the LapBand system may be mentioned.

If your primary care physician suggests the LapBand surgery, take this suggestion to heart. Your doctor has your best interests in mind.

2 – If You Are Severely Obese

On average, those suffering from obesity have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more. This usually translates to 30 pounds overweight. Although obesity has many risks and complications, LapBand surgeons are selective. In most cases, simply just being obese isn’t enough to warrant a LapBand procedure. Instead, most physicians recommend patients have a Body Mass Index (BMI) rating of 40 or more. This translates into severe and morbid obesity.

If you are 100 pounds overweight or more, LapBand surgery may not only help you lose weight, but it may save your life.

3 – If You Are Unable to Lose Weight

In most cases, the LapBand surgery is used as a last resort. It is considered a relatively safe procedure, but there are always risks involved. That is why most professionals opt for natural weight loss methods. Before giving the okay for LapBand, most surgeons want to see proof that their patients have tried to lose weight with diet and exercise. If not, most will try natural approaches before opting for surgery.

If you have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight with diet and exercise multiple times, weight loss surgery may be your only option.

4 – If Your Health is at Risk

Health will play a huge role in one’s ability to undergo LapBand surgery. For many, it is a double sword. LapBand surgery and weight loss can lessen the symptoms of asthma, diabetes, and other obesity related conditions. In fact, symptoms may completely disappear. On that same note, those who are obese due to a medical condition, such as a thyroid problem or pregnancy, are not ideal candidates. In these instances, a reduced stomach size may not cure a weight problem.

If you suffer from obesity related health problems, consider surgery. Not only will you lose weight, but your overall health and wellbeing will improve. You may feel as if you got a new lease on life with the LapBand surgery.

5 – If You Cannot Complete Daily Activities

Despite being obese, some men and women are able to lead normal and happy lives. This is often the case with slight obesity. On the other hand, there are those who cannot do daily activities or needed tasks. Those who find it impossible to play with their children, walk up a flight of stairs, or leave the house, are at a serious and dangerous stage. This is the point where LapBand surgery and other extreme methods of weight loss should be examined.

If your obesity restricts your ability to go about your day, now is the time to consider the LapBand system.

If you are considering weight loss surgery or lapband surgery, make sure you get the facts first. With the rise in obesity, many are seeking effective methods to lose weight through surgical procedures. Many view lapband surgery as the “quick fix” to their weight problems but don’t assess how it will impact their life after surgery. In this article, we will go through what you can expect after lapband surgery related to both diet, exercise, and the healing process.

If you are considering weight loss surgery you must consider that you will need to modify your lifestyle after surgery. If you don’t, your surgery will be for not. The biggest change after lapband surgery are your diet changes. With a lapband the band is placed around the upper third portion of the stomach to create a pouch in your stomach that initially holds 2 ounces of food. Over time this expands to hold 4-6 ounces. My restricting the amount of food your stomach can hold, you can limit your intake thus losing weight in the process. You will feel full sooner but will not necessarily lose the cravings.

What can I expect in the first week after my surgery?

In the first few days following lapband surgery you must stick to a clear liquid diet. Failing to stick to this diet can cause the band to slip and may in some cases require a second procedure.

The other surprise for most is if you drink pop (soda), coffee, or tea you cannot have caffeine for the first 3-4 months after surgery. You don’t want to consume and liquids that might create extra gas during the healing process.

After the first 3-4 days, you will move on to a modified liquid diet for 5-6 weeks that will include protein shakes, soup, and other soft foods like jello.

In the second 5-6 week phase you will be able to move on to solid foods that are shredded to make it easier for your body to digest. Your dietician will typically have you stay away from starchy foods like bread. Your diet will mainly consist of processed meats and vegetables. Just remember, you are on the way to a healthier life.

How Much Exercise Will I Need After Surgery?

After your surgery, you will slowly build up to a consistent exercise routine. At first you will want to start with low impact exercises like walking. Your physician will educate you after your initial visits on whether you are ready for more intense exercise routines.

The key is to start making your new diet and exercise a habit. You will find success if you create new habits that break your old habits and look at the surgery as a new lease on life. It won’t be easy, but worth every minute of sweat you put into it.

Before your surgery, make sure you physician takes you through the appropriate physiological and mental evaluations to make sure you are a good candidate. Finding a specialist that is thorough and experienced will improve your success and your weight loss journey.

Congratulations on joining our community! Here is some important information:
Post from: Lapband Surgery

Lapband Surgery Texas

You workout regularly, follow a diet plan dedicatedly but still aren’t able to shed even an extra pound! This is not just your story but that of millions who are unable to succeed in their effort to lose weight. Around 20% of these people then take recourse to surgery. But how effective is weight loss surgery. Most of us are skeptical regarding the effectiveness of this surgery. Is it safe or risky? Where can I find lapband surgery texas options?

Celebrities go gaga over their fitness regimen chalked out by expert trainers and renowned nutritionists. But it is not possible for the man on the street to avail such facilities. Over the years, lap band surgery or gastric banding has become quite popular in the US. For the morbidly obese individual, lap band surgery texas is the best possible solution. This surgery uses minimally invasive technique to bind the stomach pouch with a band, which can be tightened or removed. This method helps reduce food intake by minimizing the size of the stomach. As the individual starts losing weight, the position of the band gets loosened and hence needs to be adjusted. Normally, patients take around six to eight adjustments in the first 18 months post lap band surgery. Records suggest that patients lose around 50 to 60 percent of weight two years post surgery.

The question next arises- who are the possible candidates for lap band surgery. This surgery is not meant for all and sundry. Doctors chiefly recommend patients with BMI of 40 and above for undergoing lap band surgery. Exceptions occur when patients with BMI of 30 and above are advised to undergo this surgery on account of high blood sugar levels. Yes! Weight loss surgery helps to remit diabetes to a considerable extent. Research shows that lap band surgery helps patients lose greater amount of weight in a comparatively short span of time. This reduction in body weight helps control diabetes and its ill-effects.

Notwithstanding the positives, there are some downsides to lap band surgery. Slippage of the band might occur when the patient starts losing weight. Besides, the patient should dedicatedly follow the diet regimen advised. No carbonated beverages are recommended. However, weight loss surgery would be a great success only when the patient strictly adheres to the instructions given by the doctor. Regular check ups and adjustment of the band is a part of the entire post surgery process. Once the patient gets used to his new lifestyle, recovery to a new self can be effectively guaranteed.

How Fast Does Weight Loss Occur With Lapband

The LapBand is a silicone band that is placed around the top of the stomach. The LapBand is fully and easily reversible, whereas stomach stapling is not. The Lapband is fastened around the upper stomach to create a new, tiny stomach pouch. The LapBand is not a perfect solution and will not result in weight loss if you start eating an excess of chocolate or high calorie drinks (such as ice cream shakes and soda).

A recent French study concluded that: Laparoscopic Mini-Gastric Bypass is a technically simple, safe, and effective procedure in the treatment of morbid obesity and its associated medical illnesses. A recent study from Taiwan showed Mini-Gastric Bypass resulted in significant and sustained weight loss with successful treatment of Diabetes in 87%.

The lower risk of complications and re-hospitalization after the Mini-Gastric bypass shows that patients and insurers may have access to a safer and less expensive alternative. TV star Gil Gerard, (Buck Rogers), underwent a lifesaving new Mini-Gastric Bypass procedure in order to reclaim his health and restart his career.

The Lapband is positioned laparoscopically around the stomach and requires an overnight hospitalization and an upper GI swallow the next morning. The device can be gradually adjusted to increase stomach constriction by the physician in an office setting so that the patient loses approximately 1-2 pounds per week over two years.

Once you have recovered from the surgery, your body’s own scar tissue heals the stomach tissue together, just as your skin stays healed long after sutures or staples are removed. This minimally invasive approach involves laparoscopic entrance into the abdomen, after which the area behind the stomach in dissected for placement of the band.

The LapBand is an alternative to gastric bypass, or stomach stapling. The LapBand is a viable alternative for those who do not want to experience gastric bypass surgery, and who wish to eat more normally. The LapBand is not a magic pill. But the lapband is a great alternative to the non-reversible gastric bypass surgery.

The LapBand is applied using relatively straight forward key hole surgery which is a lot less invasive than normal surgery and generally allows the patient to return to normal activities within a day or two. The LapBand is made of soft silicone and equipped with an elastic balloon that can be inflated to the desired volume by means of injection postoperatively.

Success of weight loss with the LapBand is 80% dependent on your commitment to follow-up with your surgeon every 6-8 weeks for at least the first year.

lapband surgery is usually performed on extremely obese people, by the general anestthesia. While this procedure is usually done laparoscopically, some cases require open surgery. This surgery engage the positioning of an inflatable silicone ring around the upper part of the stomach, so that a small pouch is formed. This little bag is used as the stomach of the person who has undergone this operation. Since this bag called the stoma is very small, it has the ability to hold small amounts of food. When compared to a normal stomach can hold at least six cups of food, the stoma can only hold up to ½ a cup of food. This leads to reduction of food intake. The band is fastened around the stomach to ensure that the food goes into the stoma to the remaining part of the stomach in a slow manner so that the person feels full for a longer time. This leads to a gradual weight loss of the person who has followed a strict diet in order to achieve best results. Now you have a basic idea of lap band procedure. Next, we take a look at the lap band surgery demands that a person who is entitled to make, to deal with these criteria.

Conditions forlapband surgery
Lap band is not performed on every overweight person. There are several requirements that must be met with the person so that he may have recourse to this method of weight loss. Below are some of the most important round ligament surgery requirements. Now you know that only overweight people are opting for this surgery. However, does the BMI (Body Mass Index) has an important role in a person entitled to such surgery. A person with a BMI of 40 and above can opt for this surgery. If the BMI is between 35 and 40, but the person has diseases (such as sleep apnea, diabetes, high, etc.) that can be improved by the reduction in body weight, then, this operation can be performed. Also, the body weight of the person can be considered as a criterion instead of the BMI. That his body weight is 45 kilograms or more above the ideal weight of the person. The age of the person must be between 18 to 55. In some cases, others may also be considered for this operation is considered. Lapband surgery requirements include evidence of past weight loss programs (in particular are medically supervised). In other words, the other person weight loss methods tried before the decision for this operation. This requirement is important for the lap band surgery insurance. The person has a history of obesity. He / she must be obese for the last 5 years or more, so that admission to thelapband surgery.
Lapband surgery include requirements and the affordability and the knowledge of the band lap surgery complications and risks. The person has to follow the diet and other lifestyle changes are ready.
How does a Lap-Band Work Once the lap band around the upper part of the stomach, a small bag, otherwise known as stoma, is secured, formed at the upper part of the stomach. The stoma is small, as compared to the remaining part of the stomach. In most cases, the stoma to keep half a cup of food, while the capacity of a normal stomach six cups. As the stoma can be kept very small quantities of food, the person feels full, even if they are eating food in small quantities. As the stoma secured with the band during the lap band procedure, leftovers move to the larger part of the stomach, very slowly. A person does not feel for a long time, and this leads to less hungry food intake, leading to weight loss. The band is adjustable, as they are inflated or deflated by inserting or removing saline. Adjusting the height of the saline solution in the ring is done generally provided through an access port under the skin. The band is adjusted as per the requirement and comfort of an individual. If the band is too loose, the person feels too hungry because the food passes too quickly from the stoma to the larger part of the stomach. If it is too narrow, the food is not to pass through the digestive system in an appropriate manner. So this band is adjusted several times by the surgeon, so as to obtain an ideal positioning.

Where to Get Affordable Lapband Surgery

If you are one of those people who have been fighting the battle of the bulge and have time and again found yourself coming up just a wee bit short, you might have considered various options to help you win the battle. Whether it is new pills, weight loss supplements or the latest fad diets that have been making the rounds on magazines and talk shows on TV, you have probably ended up seeing more than you really want to see. You might have considered surgical weight loss but most weightloss surgery procedures are not only expensive and invasive but also disrupt your life by requiring you to stay at the medical facility for a while. But if you have heard of lapband surgery or the adjustable gastric band you should know that if you have it performed Friday afternoon you can be back in office by Monday morning.

Before you decide on the lapband surgery or any other kind of weight surgery with or without lap bands, you have to see all the options available to you whether it is your diet, exercise or any other weight loss plans. Then you might have to make some changes to your exercise and eating habits and really make an effort at maintaining these changes because it will be based on this whether you will be able to win even if you undergo the insertion of an adjustable gastric band.

Once you’ve done the ground work and found that lapband surgery is indeed the right option for you and you fell comfortable with the idea then you should go ahead. However, you will first have to undergo some tests and talk to the specialists to make sure that you are a good candidate for the adjustable gastric band.

Once you have been pre-screened successfully, you can be ready for the lapband surgery. Make sure that you understand all the costs beforehand. Although the procedure is pretty quick, you will need an overnight stay at the hospital mostly to make sure that you shake off the anesthetic. You will need to pay for the anesthesiologist; then there will be the cost of the actual procedure and the device or adjustable gastric band itself.

The adjustable gastric band is inserted through a tiny incision near the top of the stomach and wrapped around it so that it can be inflated or deflated and adjusted as per the requirement. If it is tightened, you will be able to eat less food and yet feel full. This is adjusted in such a way that you consume only how much food you need and no more thus helping you lose surplus weight. This can be adjusted and can even be removed; hence lapband surgery is said to be reversible. It can also be removed when a woman is expecting and needs to eat properly to make sure that the foetus is growing healthy.

So if you have been looking for lapband surgery, see what the adjustable gastric band can do for you right here!

        <!– p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } –><!– p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } –>

Consult your doctor before you finally adopt this type of treatment as it is important to work out is this is the right treatment for you. For those people whose BMI is less than 40 adjustable gastric bands may not be the right procedure for you. Most of the risk involved with gastric lap-band surgery is comparatively lesser than bariatic surgery.

Alteration in the size of the stomach is what is generally involved in the lap-band procedure for losing weight. There are a number of possible lap-band complications which are as follows:

There is always a risk for complications when a person who is overweight goes through any operation. Death is one of the major risks that involve gastric lap-band surgery.

gastric perforation during or after the procedure is another risk which might lead to another surgery.

This surgery can also increase the risk of the development of certain diseases. The medications used during and post surgery can also induce certain side effects.

The complications that arise may not be very serious but at times there would be the need to undergo hospitalization and re-operation. With an estimated record of 88% of those who underwent lap-band surgery experiencing adverse effects ranging from mild, moderate to severe, patients may also experience nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea and band slippage etc.

Other complications involve the development of stomach ulcers which might cause great pain and affect the quality of your life. This may sometimes be life threatening. Sometimes, the risk band may also begin to erode when it is still inside the stomach. And this might result to internal bleeding or a leak of gastric components.

Click here now to see what worked for me >> Natural weight loss that is proven to work >>

For the purpose of this argument I’m referring to women and the USDA recommended calorie guidelines. We tend to forget that they are simply guidelines. Other factors that can affect your daily calorie needs are age gender and activity level. You can find dozens of websites that will help you zero in on your specific calorie needs but I’ve included a workable outline here for women using myself as an example.

Is it really possible to lose weight within a few weeks? Well yes it is but there are a few steps which you have to follow without fail.

Many people consider themselves weight loss resistant. They have tried several diets and none of them have worked. The problem is not with these people. The problem is with the diets. There is an alternative!

The hit TV Show The Biggest Loser has given us some great weight loss inspirational stories but there is none greater than the inspiring story of The Weight Loss Twins Bill and Jim Germanakos. This article shares why they decided to do the show how they won season 4 and how they are now showing others how to lose weight fast.

If you’re at all serious about weight loss you want to make sure you know how to choose the right weight loss plan for you. Once you have that down the rest is just following instructions but how do you know which weight loss products and diets are right for you? If you don’t know what you’re doing you can seriously and permanently hurt your body with the wrong weight loss program.

You might not have time to work out in the morning as you don’t want to be late for work. But again; you may get exhausted when you return home and don’t want to exercise. This way you will not be able to burn the fats you consumed the day before. It is very important to drain out the excess fat from your body. If this is your daily routine; you should accept the fact that you are not going to do exercise.

Considering Lapband Surgery In Mexico?

Lap Band Surgery in Mexico – A Cheap & Safe Option To Consider

It is understandable for you to be nervous about going through lap band surgery. The thought of being operated on and having your stomach adjusted accordingly, for the sake of losing weight, plus the expenses in doing so, may be a little bit scary. It is of some comfort, however, to know the low risk of lap band surgery, and the enormous benefits it could give. It is also helpful to find out the care you will be provided, whether you have lap band surgery in Mexico, where many professional surgeons are, or right here at home.

Why Mexico? First of all, there is a burgeoning health industry across the border, where many new health care workers are in training and who become recognized experts in their field. This is no less true when it comes to bariatric surgery, specifically lap band surgery.

Health care equipment and personnel are also more affordable in Mexico. Considering that the health standards in both the United States and Mexico are about the same, getting treated in Mexico provides much value for money. It is not often recognized that the difference in costs is due not so much to a difference in the actual quality, but in the reputation of the big medical and pharmaceutical companies based in the United States. By availing of the more or less equal quality goods and services in Mexico, you are taking advantage of what many Americans do not know.

As for the adjustable gastric band treatment itself, the doctors both in the United States and Mexico work in close coordination to give you the best of both worlds. Nonetheless, there are risks, as in any medical treatment, wherever you get it. Rest assured that insurance policies are able to cover the surgery, and payments in case of a problem will not be affected due to the operation being done abroad.

Bariatric surgery is not for everyone. Ultimately, when deciding to push through with it, you will have weighed the financial costs, the surgery risks and inconveniences, and post-surgery checkups, with the long term benefits of weight loss, confidence, better self esteem & and a more fulfilling life.

By choosing to get your lap band surgery in Mexico, you not only get rapid weight loss and safe weight loss, but get utmost care and attention for a lower price. You can save yourself a lot of grief, not to mention the time and money exploring other less successful alternatives here in the states.

We have been handling Lap Band Surgery in Meico for over 10 years. And, infact, I am a success story myself

Denver Lap-Band Lapband Bariatric Surgery

What Is It REALLY Like to Live with a LAP-BAND

Will I feel hungry with the LAP-BAND?
The LAP-BAND makes you eat less and feel full in two ways – by reducing the capacity of your stomach and increasing the time it takes food to get through the digestive system. After a small meal you should feel full. If you follow the nutrition guidelines when you choose your food and then chew it well, you should not feel hungry or deprived

Will I have constipation?
There may be some reduction in the volume of your stools, which is normal after a decrease in food intake because you eat less fiber.

Can I drink alcohol?
Alcohol has a high number of calories. It also breaks down vitamins and increases cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol is a stress hormone that promotes fat development in the body, and impairs muscle growth. While you can drink alcohol, it may impede your weight loss.

What about my medication?
You should be able to take prescribed medication. You may need to use capsules, break big tablets in half or dissolve them in water so they do not get stuck in the stoma and make you sick.

What if I go out to eat?
Order only a small amount of food, such as an appetizer. Eat slowly. Finish at the same time as your table companions. Since you can only eat a small amount of food no matter where you are eating, your choices really need to be smart, high nutrition choices.

What about pregnancy?
Becoming pregnant can be easier as you lose weight. Your menstrual cycle may become more regular. If you need to eat more while you are pregnant, the band can be loosened. After the pregnancy, the band may be made tighter again, and you can resume losing weight.

Will I need to take vitamins and other supplements?
Yes. Most Lap-Band patients need a daily multivitamin, along with a couple of protein shake supplements per day. These are essential in providing the nutrients to optimize muscle growth, and augment fat selective weight loss.

Will I need plastic surgery for the surplus skin when I have lost a lot of weight?
That is not always the case. Generally, plastic surgery will not be considered for at least a year or two after the operation, when you’ve lost your weight. Sometimes the skin will mold itself around the new body tissue. This is another advantage of Lap-Band over other bariatric surgeries – weight loss is slower and more consistent. You should give the skin the time it needs to adjust before you decide to have more surgery.

Is it true that the LAP-BAND seems “tighter” in the morning?
This is a fairly common feeling, especially for people with bands that are tight or just after an adjustment. During the day the water content in the body changes and this may cause the band to feel “tighter” some of the time. Some women have also noticed that the LAP-BAND feels tighter during menstruation. If your LAP-BAND feels tight all the time, call your doctor immediately for an adjustment. Failure to adjust the band may result in more serious complications.

Albuquerque Lap-Band Lapband Bariatric Surgery

Overview of Lap-Band and Other Bariatric Gastric Surgeries Available in Albuquerque

Obesity is a medical condition caused by excessive weight gain, which poses a grave health risk to individuals, and sets the foundation for a range of debilitating diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Bariatric obesity surgery is a procedure performed on individuals who are dangerously obese, and who do not respond to traditional, non-surgical weight-loss treatment.

Bariatric obesity surgery encompasses numerous surgical techniques, some done through the laparoscopic method and others carried out via âopen surgeryâ; some of which are reversible and others which are not. The most frequently used techniques include adjustable gastric banding, vertical banded gastroplasty, biliary-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and mal-absorption operations. Other lesser known techniques include but are not limited to, sleeve gastrectomy, the use of an intragastric balloon and implantable gastric stimulation, to name but a few.

The benefits of bariatric obesity surgery are many, as obesity impacts all aspects of an individualâs life, be it physical, psychological or social. For instance, bariatric obesity surgery reduces complications associated with diabetes, heart disease, breathing difficulties and even sleep apnea. However bariatric obesity surgery is only advocated when a low calorie diet, steady exercise, medication and counseling prove to be ineffective, and it is recommended only for people whose body weight exceeds the ideal by more than 50 kilograms and who suffer from other obesity related illness. Also, consultants generally hold the opinion that bariatric obesity surgery is of limited use to those, whose obesity is a result of a hormonal or a metabolic imbalance.

As with all surgical procedures, bariatric obesity surgery too, sometimes pose a few complications, and only if the proposed benefits are perceived to outweigh the risks, that physicians advise patients to go ahead with the said procedure. Infections, incisional hernias, gastric dumping syndrome (which causes nausea and/or diarrhea), and pneumonia are some of the common problems encountered by a minority of patients who undergo bariatric obesity surgery.

In preparation for bariatric obesity surgery, patients are requested to obtain a nutritional evaluation, a range of blood tests, and a full medical check-up, so as to minimize potential post-surgery complications that may otherwise occur.

After bariatric obesity surgery, overeating is automatically curbed, as excess food intake generally causes the patient to display nausea-like symptoms. After undergoing the said surgery, most patients are advised to take a regular dose of multivitamins so as to compensate for the reduced absorption of essential nutrients. Once weight reduction is achieved, in order to maintain the desired level of weight, individuals are advised to follow prudent eating practices, so as to obtain the optimal benefits that bariatric obesity surgery promises.

Complications of Lapband Surgery

With all this talk about losing weight and weight loss surgery, it’s easy to forget that weight loss surgery is a major undertaking. As with all operations, there’s always the chance of complications; something might go wrong that is beyond the help of a doctor.

Depending on the type of weight loss surgery you have chosen, the complications may occur. For an operation as drastic as stomach stapling, it could be as bad as a life time of malnutrition and constant monitoring of nutrition, or worst, the surgery goes wrong, and some part of your stomach or intestines wasn’t sutured properly.

These complications could be so bad, that you end up losing your life. Worst of all, most weight loss surgeries are either impossible to reverse or very hard to reverse. There is no way for you to go back to your original self once for those surgeries – the deed is done.

So perhaps the best way to avoid these risks and complications is to choose a surgery that minimizes it. And one such surgery is the adjustable gastric band, aka the lapband. The lapband is completely reversible, safe, simple surgery. Although it isn’t without its own complications, when compared to other weight loss surgery options, it has the least complications, and the complications are no where near as bad as the other ones.

Lapband surgery has one great advantage over the other surgeries – it is reversible! If you want to remove the band, a simple procedure could make that happen, as if no alternation is made to your stomach. Over a short period of time, your stomach will recover and return to its original form. However, keep in mind that the band is intended to stay in your body forever, and it is usually recommended that you do not remove the band unless absolutely necessary.

So the lapband does have its own complications, but what are they? As with all surgeries, death is always a very rare possibility. There may be a chance where the lapband slips, or band erosion. The port site, the place where the saline solution can get put into may hurt. Or the bulb, tubing, or band may leak.

There’s also the small chance where your stomach, esophagus, liver, or spleen may get injured, or you might experience major blood lost. If the complications are serious, although rare, the surgeon may have to switch to open surgery. However, the risk of any danger is always very low. Lapband surgery has proven to be a safe medical procedure with little to no complications.

Ultimately, if you do experience any discomfort or pain resulting from the surgery, always tell your clinic. Although the complications are small and very rare, if left untreated, it could very well lead to major consequences. Lapband surgery really does look like a nice, and safe option. It doesn’t require cutting or stapling of your stomach at all, and since it is done laproscopically, there’s less pain, and virtually little to no scarring, and very short recovery time.

Getting Your Lapband Surgery in Mexico

Obesity is a condition that many people experience, to varying degrees. In this past century, awareness of obesity, as with other issues that grew with mass media, has become so ubiquitous. You would think that with all the talk about it, that people would have found a solution to it a long time ago. Yet many are still unaware of how to treat their condition. There are so many different treatments in the market. Among them, ‘liposuction’ and ‘cosmetic surgery’ have become household terms, and are sought out by those who can afford these operations. Another option, not as commonly known but nonetheless patronized and recognized by many, is bariatric surgery, specifically lapband surgery. Quite a number of Americans are known to have gotten their lapband surgery in Mexico.

Getting your tummy done via liposuction and other cosmetic remedies seems to solve the problem of being overweight. After all, so much in pounds is removed from the body, leaving one with less fat and of course reduced weight. No problem, right? Except when you consider the sustainability of these types of weight loss procedures. If one’s eating habits are not accordingly adjusted, then one stands to gain as much weight later on, resulting in the liposuction being all for naught.

What one needs is a way to alter one’s very lifestyle. This normally could not be done by sheer will power. After all, if you have a certain constitution, you will be hard wired to meet the needs of that constitution. Laparoscopic band surgery, which is the long name for lapband surgery, recognizes this matter. In this procedure, a band is placed around one’s stomach, so that the area where food is stored is shrunk. The brain recognizes this smaller area, and when consuming food, one feels ‘full’ even after a fraction of one’s regular intake.

Because of our less active lifestyles than our ancestors, we actually need much less in nutrients and food intake than our digestive system has the capacity for. By reducing the stomach area to this manageable size, one is able to get sufficient nutrition without the urge to eat more than they should.

Mexico is a place where many choose to get their lapband surgery. This is not only due to the increasing health professionals located south of the border, but to the relatively lower cost of health care. If you are considering your options, make sure to have in mind lapband surgery in Mexico.
